Cryo-Chamber Process

How does it work?

The instant drop in temperature inside the Cryotherapy Chamber stimulates your body’s temperature receptors, causing your body to react to the cold and compensate with blood flow. The cold triggers the body’s nervous system releasing endorphins that not only contribute to a good mood, but also anti-inflammatory properties that reduce pain and swelling across the body. Once exiting the chamber, if one completes a quick burst of exercise, this will help enhance the flow of oxygen in your body. This also helps eliminate toxins

Is stepping into a Cryotherapy Chamber dangerous?

Stepping into a Cryotherapy Chamber is not dangerous. Vivere Wellness features one of the worlds most advanced Cryotherapy Chamber. You are steadily monitored and communicated with by our trained professionals throughout the 3-minute session. While in the chamber, your head is above the chamber and exposed to healthy oxygen, and you are constantly reminded to only breathe the air above. Liquid nitrogen is used to cool the cabin, but does not come in direct contact with your skin. As a safety precaution, our Cryo-Room features an oxygen monitor. Though this treatment is safe for almost everyone, it is not recommended for pregnant women or individuals with high blood pressure or recently opened wounds/surgery.

How does it work?
A Cryotherapy session runs from 1-3 minutes in the chamber. The benefits of Whole Body Cryotherapy are pretty instantaneous. You’ll feel revived and energetic from the release of endorphins. You will also feel as if you just completed a short workout. You may also feel immediate relief from joint or muscle pain, and potentially increased flexibility. With that being said, most positive effects are noticed after several sessions. The cosmetic effects of changes in skin texture (such as the reduction of cellulite or weight loss) will take longer as they require a series of consistent treatments to stimulate progress. It will of course still depend on the individuals’ dietary habits and determination to reach the goal they have set for themselves. Depending on what you want to get out of a Whole Body Cryo session, you may enjoy more sporadic bursts, or you may enjoy the on-going therapeutic benefits. Typically a minimum of 5-10 sessions during a two-three week period helps to maximize results based on the severity of injury or need. To compare, professional athletes often have up to two sessions a day (before and after training/game/practice) to help them attain peak performance. We have packages ready to suit your goals or needs. Packages may be created to suit your goals if need be. This can be discussed in person.

Historically, the reaction of excess cold on the human body has been known to induce the reduction of pain, inflammation, and swelling. It has also been known to increase an individuals’ range of motion. Liquid nitrogen has been converted to gas in order to super chill the dried room air. The temperatures inside the Chamber will drop to between -120°c and -150°c. The nitrogen gas harmlessly sinks out of the chamber and evaporates in the surrounding environment.

FAQs

How long is a session?
A Cryotherapy sessions generally lasts 2 to 3 minutes.
Can I use the chamber if I am Claustrophobic?
Yes. The cryosauna is open at the top and customized to the height of the client without full enclosing you. If you are uncertain or nervous, the technician will remind you that the door is not locked and can be easily accessed.
What do I wear in the Cryotherapy Chamber?
With the extreme cold, all jewelry must be removed prior to the treatment. Hand and foot protection is made of cotton or wool, and men are required to wear cotton underwear or a bathing suit to protect sensitive regions. All other clothing is removed. We will provide you with large protective socks, gloves as well as a robe once changed. We will have you get into the robe a few moments prior to your session.
How soon can I expect to see results after a session?
The benefits of Whole Body Cryotherapy are pretty immediate. Shortly after your sessions you’ll feel revived and energetic from the release of endorphins. You may also feel immediate relief from joint or muscle pain, and potentially increased flexibility although those feelings and effects are more significant after several sessions. The cosmetic effects of changes in skin texture (such as the reduction of cellulite or weight loss) will take longer as they require a series of treatments to stimulate change. Dietary habits may also play a part in the progress. Depending on what you want to get out of Whole Body Cryotherapy, you may enjoy more sporadic bursts, or you may enjoy the on-going therapeutic benefits. Typically a minimum of 10 sessions during a two-three week period helps to maximize all results. To compare, professional athletes often have up to two sessions a day in order to help them attain peak performance and achieve goals. You can book treatments according to your personal goals. Packages are readily available based on goals and necessities.
Is being in the chamber comfortable?
It’s comfortable and invigorating! Though this treatment is short (between one-three minutes), the cold air is dry and soothing. There is a stimulating, recharging feeling from your body reacting to the blast of cold.
Can I catch a cold from a whole body cryotherapy treatment?
No. The effects are actually the opposite as this treatment helps to stimulate the immune system. The treatments can also potentially reduce the severity and frequency of colds and flu due to the body developing brown fats. The body will create a more significant tolerance to cold.
Is liquid nitrogen dangerous for humans?
No, it isn’t. Nitrogen is a non-toxic, natural gas. The air that we breathe is made up of 20% Oxygen, 78% Nitrogen and 2% of other components. The only time it is dangerous is if you are completely submerged in the smoke and only breathing the nitrogen with no oxygen.
How can I tolerate the cold?
Mind over everything. The cooled air flows over the skin, which in turn, creates the beneficial results. This process never freezes the skin tissues or organs. It can be said that the sensation of being cold is perceived. You can keep your mind occupied by moving or talking to the specialist or by breathing slowly.
How does Cryotherapy compare to an ice bath?
Cryotherapy does not compare to an ice bath. You are simply unable to achieve the same results with an ice bath. After 12-15 minutes of a shockingly cold ice bath the skin temperature only arrives at 41 degrees whereas with 2-3 minutes of whole body cryotherapy the skin temperature gets as low as 30 degrees, this allows for a different physiological response from the body. These physiological responses will increase your speed of recovery and overall healing. During an ice bath, the cold actually penetrates into deeper skin tissue and can be damaging to the skin. In the Cryotherapy chamber, the skin is never penetrated, yet the body responds on a deeper level, even improving the skin’s overall condition.
How will I feel afterward?
During each session the body releases endorphins, which are your “feel good” hormones. The effects from each session last at least 6–8 hours. As with any new regimen, consistency is key and increased results will be noted with regular use. Many report a higher pain tolerance when exposure is pre-workout, and decreased inflammation is noted with a post- workout exposure. You will also burn 500 calories or more per exposure, due to the body’s increase in metabolic rate.
Can I work out immediately before or after my exposure?
It is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes to an hour after your workout prior to stepping into a Cryotherapy chamber. The cold on the body immediately after a workout can either slow down or void the muscle growth process. After waiting the 30 minutes to an hour, you can expect greater recovery due to the inflammation reduction. If you work-out after your exposure, you can expect a higher pain tolerance, more energy and greater flexibility.
Do I have to take a shower before and/or after the procedure?
No, you don’t. This procedure is absolutely dry and does not make your skin wet and on float.
